Is Instagram still eluding you when it comes to its use for your business? It has to be said, most of the business owners I speak to this is exactly the case and let’s face it….it’s nothing like Facebook or Twitter! The trouble is, we also all know how popular it is right now and that there is an audience there waiting, but how do you go about starting out on Instagram?

We have out together a few tips for you to get started.

 Be easy to engage with.

Make sure you use relevant hashtags so your content can be found, most people forget the purpose of hashtags…they’re there so you can be found in a search. You must also like and comment on the images of other users, this will encourage them to engage with and follow you. To sum it up…just like any other social media platform, you must engage with your audience and not just let be ‘all about you’!

Give your business a personality.

When you post images to your business account (there is a difference to a personal account!), make sure you post images that combine, fun, personality and business. Pictures of you enjoying life will let followers see the ‘real you’, which is just as important as the pictures of your products, services or work you have completed.

Balance it & test it.

Don’t overdo it and send a deluge of posts to your followers, but please make sure you balance it with being visible. It’s a juggling act and you’ll have to test to see what works and what doesn’t. This is the same when it comes to the type of content that you post…try and test different content to see what your audience best responds and engages to.

Test out Instagram videos.

It’s not all about the pictures, Instagram also offers 60 seconds of recording time and the ability to add all your favourite filters. So perhaps think about video hints & tips you could post, share the fun your having in the office or capture something that is relevant to your business and your audience.

It is important to give some time to Instagram just like any other social media platform and if you do, the benefit of being present will clearly pay off for you & your business in the long term. Most small to medium size businesses don’t really know yet how to capitalise on Instagram, so if you can master Instagram for your business now…the advantages are clear.
